Freedom

Rumi
"For years, copying other people,
I tried to know myself…
From within, I couldn’t decide what to do.
Unable to see, I heard my name being called.
     Then I walked outside."

(This speaks of the Other, the One who calls your name, the name only It knows, the “God that only we can find” (Merton). Knowledge 'about' self, if we become fascinated with it, can be like this: A smart monkey was in a cage, and longed to escape. So the monkey examined every inch of the cage, coming to know in perfect detail every crack and crevice, the length, width, color and shape of every bar. But still the monkey remained locked in the cage. Then one day, Something opened the door from outside.)
