Christ is What We Call Heaven

Pope Benedict XIV
“The meaning of Christ’s Ascension expresses our belief that in Christ the humanity that we all share has entered in to the inner life of God in a new and hitherto unheard-of way. It means that man has found an everlasting place in God. It would be a mistake to interpret the Ascension as “the temporary absence of Christ from the world". Rather, we go to heaven to the extent that we go to Jesus Christ and enter into him. Heaven is a person: Christ is what we call ‘heaven’.”

  1. FYI I believe this was Benedict XVI, not XIVI... a typo in the attribution above the quote?

  2. Thanks Duncan, but it is actually XIV - the first Pope Benedict. Benedict the 14th rather than Benedict the 16th, who took his name. (I don't see "XIVI" above the quote - but maybe that is a typo?)
