Making Amends

Bishop Fenelon
"As to the past, there is nothing to be done save to leave it to God with humble trust, and to seek to make amends for it by unremitting fidelity. People ask for penance for the past, but what penance can be greater and more helpful then to bear present crosses patiently? It is true reparation for past vanities to become humble, and to be willing to be laid low by God."
Spiritual Letters page 126

(From Patricia: A wise friend once commented that often when people go on and on about their past sins and failures, they are really just wishing that they did not have to suffer the present outcome of those mistakes.)
