Available to God's Will

St. John of the Cross
"At the evening of life, we shall be judged by our love."
Sayings of Light and Love, #60

(Patricia: Living a solitary life and being of an age and state of health in which I am at home and alone much of the time, the thought arises that I am not making use of my life for God or neighbor. How do I serve? How can I love? Of what use is all God has given and shown me in this lifetime? These thoughts, I believe, are what sometimes makes spiritual people want to turn to teaching others, write a book or even become a guru.

In talking with a dear friend, who has struggled with the same question, we came to an answer. Let’s live our lives in such a way as to be prepared for anyone who does have need of us.  And leave the rest to God.

Here I Am, Lord.

  1. On this day as you step forward to share the love God has given you especially in the teachings and example you have received through our teacher, Bernadette, I pray that you will find joy in your time of sharing that with others. I wish I could be there with you.

  2. Patricia, I am saying a prayer for you as the discussion group begins to form and ... discuss. The quotation from St. John of the Cross is interesting in (what seems to me) it's ambiguity. Perhaps it is not so in context but on its own it could mean that we are judged by God according to the extent of our love or that we are judged by our love itself. I'm not sure what the latter means but for some reason I like it. Peter
