Initiated Into Truth

Thomas Merton
"Under the guidance of divine grace, in the school of charity, and the silence of the cloister, we are to be gradually initiated into a deep and experimental knowledge of the Truth – first as it is found in ourselves, then as it is found in others, and finally, as it is found in Itself."
When the Trees Say Nothing

[If you do not find a monastery or the ideal contemplative community, keep in mind a saying used by both Zen and Catholic contemplatives, namely that we carry our monastery with us, wherever we go. Ultimately our contemplative life does not depend on any specific place or way of life.]
