Prayer from a World of Noise

“We pray, not to surrender to God in our decision …rather, we pray because, at a moment of decision, we feel out of control, unable to guarantee that we will prevail, and we turn to God because God controls the areas beyond our control that we wish, with God’s assistance from beyond, to bring somehow under our control. Such a prayer comes from a lack of silence and from a world of noise, human noise amidst the world’s projects."
