The Soul as "Gazing"

Pseudo-Macarius
“The prophet Ezekiel speaks of the four living creatures harnessed to the Lord’s chariot. He says that they have countless eyes. In the same way the soul that seeks God – rather I mean the soul that is sought by God – is no longer anything but gazing."
Thirty Third Homily, (page 34, 741)

[These are not just beautiful words. What does Pseudo-Macarius mean by "the soul is no longer anything but gazing"? Bernadette writes about "the contemplative gaze" - what is that? Here is a 'koan' well worth considering, if for no other reason than to come to see that you don't know what it means, and let the questioning push you.]
