Simple Stillness at the Core

Meister Eckhart

"To get to the core of God at his greatest, one must first get into the core of himself at his least, for no one can know God who has not first known himself. Go to the depths of the soul, the secret place of the Most High, to the roots, to the heights; for all that God can do is focused there. This core is a simple stillness, which is unmoved itself but by whose immobility all things are moved and all receive life, that is to say, all people who live by reason and have their center within themselves.

"That we, too, may live so intelligently, may God help us. Amen."

Meister Eckhart, a Modern Translation, Raymond Blakney, Fragments
