Fr. Thomas Keating
We must first wear ourselves out in serving God in every way we can. As old age moves in, our capacities for action diminish and we come to realize that just to be the human being that we are, with all our limitations, presupposes a greater human love then all the good works we might still do. This becomes more obvious in the dying process. All that we possess and our ideas of ourselves are gradually taken away. All that is left is God's will which is to love us into the fullness of life. This is not passivity: it requires total self surrender.
