Jean-Pierre De Caussade
There is a kind of holiness in which all God’s messages are bright and clear, but there is another kind, one of utterly quiet faith, in which everything God tells us is shrouded in an impenetrable darkness that obscures God’s throne. We feel confused, as if in the shadows. Like the prophet, at these times we are often afraid of running smack into a rock as we move through the dark.
We should not be afraid, for we are on the right road, led by God. Nothing could be safer or less likely to lead us astray than the darkness of faith. Do we insist on knowing which way to go in this darkness? Go wherever you wish – it doesn’t matter. No one can get lost when there is no road to be found.
Abandonment to Divine Providence, 6.1
