I think the fact that Fr Keating rarely made categorical remarks makes this one more provocative as well as humorous. His is a lovely soul. Yes, guilt held onto is as egocentric as self-glorification. Peter
During the talk when he made this remark, he also said that true humility is a kind of self-honesty. And: How you become truly humble is to just use the intelligence God gave you and take a good look at yourself. At that point came the comment about guilt.
