The Lord's Prayer is both the way to truth and the truth itself; and if we could pray it as Christ prayed, we would already have attained everything for which we could pray. ...

To pray as Christ prayed would mean that one was already fully conscious of being a true Son of God. But we have for so long been ruled by our human nature... and ignorant of anything else that, even though we are told of our real nature, we cannot be conscious of it at will. For, we have not yet acquired true Faith which is a heavenly faculty, and no device of our human faculties can restore us to our birthright. But it is possible to give our thoughts the direction they would have, if we had regained it. This new direction and the way to follow it constitutes the whole purport of the Gospel teaching and prepares the ground for true Christian faith.

If we had true faith there could only be one prayer: Thy will be done. That is the perfect and all-embracing prayer; for it includes everything that is needed by him who prays, whether he knows what to ask for or not; and to be able to accept God's will in all things would, in itself, be the fulfillment of the first great commandment (Matthew 22: 37-38) and the attainment of perfection.
