Brother Lawrence of the Resurrection
Brother Lawrence describes what he called the personal path of the pilgrim.
First: A great purity of life … and in failure, an immediate and sincere repentance thereof and humility in entreating forgiveness.
Second: Positive faithfulness in the practice of God's presence, a keeping of the soul's eyes upon God, calmly, trustworthy, humbly, with a love that leaves no room for care or doubt.
Third: Looking to God when taking up any common task, a prayer to him at the beginning, reliance during discharge of the task, and thanks when it is completed.
Fourth: Offer up words of love, in silence and hidden … or such other words of loving trust as may arise out of the occasion.
Most important: Be heedful that the mind not wander back to the world; let It be steadfast to God. He will not fail you.
