Mystics and Contemplative

Bernadette Roberts

As we know, the extraordinary [transforming process] is accompanied by visions and voices, ecstasies, rapture, and so on. I have always thought of this as the path of the mystic, and obviously it has not been the concern of this book. Nevertheless, because the extraordinary has been set up as the gauge and shining example for the ordinary, this, too, is a major source of misunderstanding regarding the true nature of the Unitive life. Where, for the mystics, the unitive goal is realized in a flourish of high excitement and experience, the ordinary contemplative realizes the same goal in the silent, still waters deep within.

The Path to No-Self

[Note: I am happy to announce, in response to requests from readers, that Bernadette has two new titles now available in Kindle format on Amazon, her first two published books: Experience of No Self and Path to No Self. With the addition of these two titles, now all of her books are available both as paperback and as Kindle books, on Amazon. Both of her recorded talks are also available. For more information on the talks, email Patricia at pmasters1140 at gmail.com .]
