Redemption vs Reincarnation

 Bernadette Roberts

The notion of karma – tit-for-tat or eye for an eye – is pivotal to the whole theory of reincarnation, take away karma and reincarnation loses its reason for being – the argument on which it depends. The Redeemer puts an end to belief in a “universal law of karma” – which never existed anyway – because He pays our debt and restores what we lost. (Even if such a law existed, we know Christ did away with, or abrogated, the existing laws.) Thus with no karmic debt to pay the reason for reincarnation collapses. Christ the Redeemer and the law of karma cannot coexist, either Christ paid all karmic debt or he didn’t, one cannot hold both positions at once.
