“God wills us to keep our eyes closed and not seek to peer into his face. Any attempt of that kind would lead to delusions which are only a form of idol making. Think of his word to Moses: 

‘You cannot see my face; for man shall not see me and live… Behold, there is a place by me where you shall stand upon the rock; and while my glory passes by I will put you in a cleft in the rock and I will cover you with my hand until I have passed; then I will take away my hand, and you shall see my back; but my face shall not be seen.’
