Father Dawson
When you're young you pray, 'Don't let me die, Lord, I'm not ready yet'. Then you grow older and find that you're less ready than ever you were. 'More time, Lord', you pray. Finally at a great age you realize being ready is not important, whatever the spiritual writers may say. Is God ready, that's the thing. If God waited until I was ready, he'd have to wait around beyond the day of judgment. You're only ready to die when you accept that you never will be ready.
Bless Me Father, by Neil Boyd, Book 6
