Hope for a Brighter Day

All things pass...

In the midst of this virus, with the pain and suffering it brings, and the new life we are learning to live, I remembered a woman telling me about an incident from her childhood. She, I will call her Mindy, and her younger brother were raised in a home, made chaotic by alcoholism and domestic violence. There was an evening, not unlike many others, when the house was filled with the noise of argument, some so bad as to lead to a physical fight. She and her little brother escaped from the house and stood outside at the end of the driveway, waiting for things to calm down enough for them to go to bed.

As they stood there holding hands, gazing at the sky and listening to the sound of angry voices and things being thrown around the room, they feared their world may be breaking in pieces and what little security they had, gone. Suddenly Mindy had an unexpected feeling of peace and a moment of insight. She turned to her little brother and said, "You know what is weird? We will laugh again."

Remembering that story, I am encouraged by the mystery and the truth of it.

"Hope springs eternal in the human heart"*.
